What To Do In Gulfport Florida?
Florida has something for everyone. The state boasts fantastic weather, great seafood, a rolling coastline and friendly locals who love their communities and enjoy a booming nightlife. Gulfport, Florida, in particular, has things to do that will keep you engaged and entertained all through your vacation. The tiny little community is located bang on the beautiful natural Florida coastline, but it is now becoming the ‘go-to’ place for everyone in the area.
Why?
The tiny cove is located on the Boca Ciega Bay, but it has beautiful powder-sand beaches, an excellent marina and one of the longest fishing piers in the state. The nightlife and dining areas located on the marina make it one of the best places to hang out for both young and old alike.
1. The Clam Bayou Nature Preserve – Formerly known as the Osgood Point Clam Bayou Nature Park, this garden is located on 29 Avenue South. It is a beautiful park that showcases the typical environment of Coastal Florida. The rolling Nature Preserve has vistas that include natural vegetation, marsh and mangrove settings along with related fauna like crabs, clams, sea birds, animals, and fishes. The 10-acre park also offers hiking and camping facilities along with observation decks, kayaking, and canoe launches for novices and experts.
2. William’s Pier – It is safe to say that Gulfport is a prime example of Florida’s bustling beach culture. Williams Pier is one such walkway that is thronged by locals and tourists all through the year. The Pier is open-admission, and fishing is allowed. Along with fishing, locals are often seen using the seating areas to enjoy the sun and breeze.
3. Art Walks – Gulfport has a bustling art scene. On the first Friday and third Saturday of every month, the city hosts an art walk that is patronized heavily by local artists and sculptors. The art walks are also famous for their shopping, music, and food as local vendors, musicians, and food trucks ply their wares in the area.
4. Food – Of course, good food is essential to a good vacation and Gulfport is no different. The city boasts some of the finest local and international cuisine restaurants located just off the Pier. Try O’Maddy’s Bar and Grill, Salty’s Gulfport, Stella’s and The Tangelo Grill for world-class cuisine at affordable rates. In case you want to try the local seafood, you can always try Gulfport’s Tuesday Fresh Market. Local vendors, greengrocers, fishermen, and gardeners hawk the freshest produce, catch-of-the-day, antique items, vintage crafts and sculptures at local stalls and you can get quite lucky.
Of course, you should know that activities tend to vary according to season and planning. If you plan to visit the city, we do recommend taking a quick look at the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce Events Calendar or the city’s Events Calendar, before planning a trip. You are more likely to find seasonal events and festivals that are just right for you.
